What are communication skills ?

The Collins dictionary defines "Skill" as 'an ability in a task, sport, etc'.
In general, the skills are the common capabilities of any human being which are further developed by practice , and training. All great men have done the same.
We all can sing , but there are a few who develop this common ability with patience ,practice and training . they become skillful  singers. Similar is the case of athletes, wrestlers, preachers , actors , and politicians etc.

All human beings possess the ability to communicate with each other. But when one tries to develop this ability , she/he reaps great result. the common trait of communication can be developed as a skill which can provide us immense powers to control, convince, persuade, instruct, inform and guide others.
The skills of communication is a big determiner of ones success in social , professional and personal life.

We use two basic ways to communicate with the other creatures of same and different species. they are :
1. Verbal Communication.
2. Nonverbal Communication.

Verbal Communication occurs with language. Human beings naturally learn language from the people around them. Still, if one is trained in using language skillfully , one shall have huge advantages over others who are not taught/trained or who deliberately ignored them.
Thus communication skills have four parts :
1. Listening Skills.
2. Speaking Skills.
3. Reading Skills.
4. Writing Skills.

Learning each of the above-mentioned skills  is essential for developing competence in communicating with others.
